How I work

Coaching means different things to different people. Some coaches set goals, track progress and send you away with actions to complete before next time. That's one way of working, and for some people and some situations, it's exactly right.

It's not how I work.

A space, not a schedule.

What I offer is space. Time that is entirely yours — uninterrupted, unhurried, and free from the pressure to have arrived with the right answer or the right question.

You won't leave our sessions with homework. There are no targets to hit before we speak again, no sense that you've somehow fallen behind. Life after a long career is complicated enough without a coach adding to your to-do list.

What you will leave with is clearer thinking. Often a sense of something shifting. Occasionally a realisation that surprises you.

I will make you think.

That's not to say our sessions are gentle drifts. One client told me, with some amusement, that I make them work hard at thinking.

I take that as a compliment.

The thinking we do together is purposeful. I listen carefully — more carefully than most people are used to being listened to — and I ask questions that don't let you off the hook too easily. Not to challenge you for the sake of it, but because the interesting answers are usually just past the comfortable ones.

The difference is that the work happens in the room, in the conversation. You don't carry it home as a task. You carry it home as a thought.

What sessions look like.

We meet one-to-one, online via Zoom or Google Meet, at a time that suits you — including evenings. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes, and we'll agree a rhythm that works for you, whether that's fortnightly, monthly, or something more flexible.

Everything you share is completely confidential. I work to the ICF Code of Ethics, which means what happens in our sessions stays there.
