What we might work on

No two coaching conversations are the same, and I won't pretend to know what yours needs to be about before we've met. But after a long career and a significant transition of your own, people tend to arrive carrying one or more of the same quiet questions.

Here are some of the things we might explore together.

Who am I now?

For most of your working life, the answer was straightforward. You were your role, your team, your organisation. You had a ready-made identity — and a ready-made sense of purpose to go with it.

When that falls away, even by choice, it can feel surprisingly disorienting. Not a crisis, necessarily. Just a stillness where there used to be noise, and a question you haven't had to ask yourself in years.

We can sit with that question together, and see what answers start to surface.

What do I actually want?

Not what makes sense. Not what you're qualified for. Not what your family thinks would suit you.

What do you want? It sounds simple. It rarely is — especially for people who have spent decades prioritising the needs of an organisation, a team, a system.

Learning to ask the question honestly, and to listen to the answer, is often where the most important work happens.

What do I do next?

Perhaps you're weighing up a return to work in a different capacity. A portfolio of consultancy or interim work. Something entirely different. Or perhaps you're wondering whether you need to do anything at all — and what that might look like. There's no right answer, and I won't be pushing you towards one. But having a thinking partner alongside you as you work it out can make the difference between going around in circles and actually moving forward.

How do I talk about myself now?

After years working inside one organisation, most people find that talking about themselves — their skills, their value, their experience — doesn't come naturally. You were part of something bigger. The idea of stepping forward as an individual, whether for a new role, a consultancy pitch or simply a conversation at a dinner party, can feel unexpectedly exposing. We can work on finding your own language for who you are and what you bring. Not a polished elevator pitch. Something more honest than that — and more effective.

What does a good life look like from here?

This is perhaps the biggest question of all, and the one that often gets crowded out by the more urgent ones. But it's worth asking. You have time, experience, and — if you've taken a redundancy package — possibly more financial breathing room than you've had before. What would you do with that, if you let yourself think about it properly? These are starting points, not a fixed menu. Whatever you bring to our first conversation is the right place to begin.
